Abstract:  Stress and  How  to  Reduce  It.  Everyone  experiences  stress  or tension  but  it will  vary  from  person  to  person.  The  difference  lies  in  its intensity and the way to respond to its causes. Some ways to reduce stress include,  among  others,  consuming  healthy  and  nutritious  foods, maintaining  physical  fitness,  doing  breath  exercises,  doing  relaxation exercises, doing  fun  activities,  taking  a vacation,  establishing  harmonious relationship,  avoiding bad habits, planning daily  routines, keeping plants and animals, sparing  time  for oneself or  families, and avoiding  loneliness. Abstract:  A  Method  in  Learning  Magnetic  Substance  Characteristics  and Identifying  Natural  Sand  Compound  Contents  Through  Basic  Principles  in Physics. This study was conducted by separating ferrate sand from natural sand in an  area  in  Indramayu  Regency  in  the  form  of  the  titanomagnetite  Fe2.5Ti0.5O4 compound by means of a magnetic separator with a power of 0.3  tesla. Using this method,  the  titanomagnetite  content  of  the  natural  sand  was  capable  of  being improved from 32% to 63.6% (for sand in River Cimanuk’s tributary) based on the analysis  using  XRD  (X-Ray  Difractometer)  using  the  GSAS  (General  Structure Analisis System) program with a Chi2 of 1.454 and Wrp as a correction  factor  for the difference in the intensity of the two patterns was 0.1142 (11.42%). The value of Chi2 which was almost 1 dan and that of Wrp which was almost 10% showed that the  data  were  acceptable  (with  a  probability  of  ~0.1).  To  enhance  the titanomagnetite  content  of  the  separation  product,  an  extraction-solving  process was conducted using HCl 32% and NH4OH 25%. The results of the analysis using XRF  (X-Ray  Flourosence)  showed  that  the  content which  was most  probably  a titanomagnetite compound increased its weight fraction to almost 100%.  Keywords: ferrate sand, titanomagnetite, permanent magnet  

Abstract:  Craft  Skills  Learning  Through  an  Approach  that  Empowers  Local Crafts. Craft skills education equips students with practices aiming  to make them possess  skills  through  appreciation  and  creativity  activities  to  produce  craft products  so  that  they  acquire  life  skills.  Such  learning  should  give  them  actual learning  experiences.  It  can  be  carried  out  by  selecting  traditional  crafts  in  a particular region and modifying them into modern crafts developed in accordance with  the  students’  and  society’s needs.  It can be conducted by means of  the OIA (Observe,  Imitate,  and Add) method  to make  the  students  acquire  art  and  craft skills. Craft  skills education should employ  the contextual approach  so  that what happens  in  the  learning process at school  is  identical  to what exists  in society. An important point that teachers should note is how they can play roles as facilitators and  totivators  for  their students,  so  that  the students’ competence can develop  to the maximum.   Keywords:  craft learning, art potential learning

Abstract: The Problem-Based Learning Approach in Physical Therapy FieldWorks. The objectives of the study are to identify strategic application of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in physical therapy field works and to improve students’mastery in physical therapy in terms of cognitive, affective, and psychomotordomains. This action research study consisted of three cycles, each of whichincluded four stages, namely planning, implementing the plan, monitoringactivities and progress, and reflection. The participants were 23 seventh semesterstudents taking physical therapy field works in 2007. In the first cycle, students’theoretical mastery was inadequate. In the second cycle they did more extensiveliterature search to expand theories. In the third cycle they learned more aboutempirical cases, not just theories, so that they better skills in implementing thewhole PBL activities and managed to attain the course objectives. Abstract: Factors Affecting the Use of the Learning Management System inUniversities (A Case Study in Indonesia University of Education). The purpose ofthis paper is to find out factors that affect the usage of the Learning ManagementSystem (LMS) in in Indonesia University of Education. Indonesia University ofEducation has been built LMS to support learning processes. The focus is on factorsaffecting the use of LMS in supporting effective and efficient learning processes. Inthis research the writer used Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to find outthose factors. The data were collected using the survey technique and wereanalyzed by means of the multivariate statistic method. The result of this researchconcluded that the factors of Perceived Usefulness (PU), Perceived Ease of Use(PEOU), Intention to Use (ITU), Actual Usage Behavior (AUB) significantly affectedthe effective and efficient use of LMS in supporting learning processes.Keywords: Learning Management System (LMS), Technology Acceptance Model(TAM), Information and Communication technology (ICT).

Abstract: Noble Character Culture Building Among Students of Yogyakarta StateUniversity Through PAI Learning. This study aims to reveal problems in PAIlearning in Yogyakarta State University and its role in building students’ noblecharacter. This study was a qualitative study. The data were obtained throughinterviews, questionnaires, and documents and were analyzed using qualitativeanalysis techniques with the inductive approach. The results show that PAIlearning has an important role in building students’ noble character if supported bycompetent lecturers, good inputs, adequate materials, and good processes.Conversely, if such supports are not available, the goal will be difficult to attain.Among the problems are diverse student abilities, students’ less attention tocharacter, the emphasis of PAI learning materials on cognitive aspects, anddifficulty in controlling students outside the class.Keywords: culture building, noble character, PAI learning

Abstract: The Development of a Character Education Model Integrated intoSubject Matters in Elementary School. This article is based on the results of thefirst year study of a three-year study aiming to develop a character educationmodel using a comprehensive approach integrated into the learning of theIndonesian language, science, and social studies in elementary school, togetherwith the development of a school culture. The research subjects comprised fourelementary schools in the Province of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The results of thisstudy revealed that an effective model of character education is one implementinga comprehensive approach integrated into subject matters, using multimethods i.e.inculcation, modeling, value facilitation, and soflt skills development, accompaniedby the development of a positive school culture; the school principal and staffmembers, teachers, and parents should be involved in the practice of charactereducation; and the activities should be conducted in class, out of class, and athome.Keywords: character education, comprehensive approach, integrated learning, school culture

Abstract: The Integration of the Nation’s Character Values into IntructionalActivities. One of the crucial problems in the national education system is themoral problem. There is evidence that indicates a moral crisis among students. Thisshows that educational institutions fail to prepare graduates with good morality.To solve this problem, the nation’s character values need to be integrated in theimplementation of the formal curriculum. By doing so, teachers can help studentsto actualize each learning domain through the competency formulation and thestudents can simultaneously carry out relevant moral actions. Integrating thenation’s character values into the curriculum can be done in three stages:introduction, implementation, and evaluation. Each stage can improve students’good characters based on the formulation of the competency standard. Abstract: Children’s Literature and Character Building. This article aims todescribe roles and strategies of the learning of children’s literature in charactereducation. In terms of the materials, literature has already contained “rawmaterials” to build children’s character. Literature is culture in action containinglife models. The concept of people with ideal character highly appreciatingmorality and great values is concretely manifested in the story characters’ attitudesand behaviors. Children can imitate the heroes with ideal norms and take theirattitudes and behaviors as examples. Moreover, at their age, children like to imitatebehaviors of people that they admire. To prevent literature learning from becomingrote learning, teachers and parents should work in synergy to help children read,understand, and give examples of concrete attitudes and behaviors so that theinternalization process takes place. Abstract: A Holistic and Contextual Approach to Overcome Character Crisis inIndonesia. Indonesia has been confronting character crisis structural in nature as itoccurs in all orders of society’s life. Life practice has lost its important valuesneeded to build people with character. Such values as honesty, self-confidence,appreciation to diversity, and enthusiasms for learning and working have beendecreasing. Actually, such values play an important role in solving problems thatIndonesia is now facing, such as corruption, continuous-horizontal conflicts,inferior feelings, and low enthusiasms for learning and working. In relation to this,education can be a means to build people with character. It can be implementedwith a holistic and contextual approach. Such an approach deals with not only thecognitive factor but also all potentials belonging to people. Abstract: Plagiarism Prevention in Thesis Writing: An Attempt to StrengthenCharacter Building in the Academic World. The study is aimed at describingplagiarism in thesis writing at a tertiary educational institution. The study wasconducted in the Javanese Department, Faculty of Language and Arts, YogyakartaState University. The data were collected through in-depth interviews andobservations, and analysed using the explanatory approach, espesially thequalitative descriptive technique. The findings show that plagiarism in thesiswriting includes duplicating, consisting of (1) duplicating titles, (2) duplicatingcontents, (3) duplicating theories, (4) duplicating, and (5) duplicating references.The process approach in thesis writing can be used to prevent plagiarism. Such anapproach consists of steps as follows: returning the thesis draft, showing originalsources, and cancelling the thesis. Abstrak: Moral Values in Serat Wedhatama and Moral Education. Moral valuesare the highest values with four main characteristics: responsibility, conscience,absolute obligation, and formality. They are also related to what should not bedone due to the values that have to be highly praised. The moral values in SeratWedhatama include, among others, simple life, affection, responsibility, consciencedevelopment, love to others, humbleness, not being proud, religious obedience byconforming to the religious rules and avoiding what is prohibited, good positionsthrough sincere work everywhere, wealth through hardwork, and knowledge thatother people can benefit from. Such values are absolute moral values that are fixedand formal in nature. Abstract: The Teacher’s Role as a Model in Teaching Character and MoralVirtues through Physical Education. Problems of students’ bad character andmorality always appear in the field of education. This may result from the fact thateducation in Indonesia emphasizes intellectual development only, while otheraspects, such as personality, affective factors, and moral virtues, receive lessattention. Schools and teachers actually play an important role and have aresponsibility for students' learning both in the cognitive and affective aspects. Abstract: A Strategy to Internalize Moral and Religious Values in LearningProcesses in Higher Education. This study aims to describe a strategy tointernalize moral and religious values in learning processes in higher education.This research was a descriptive study employing the qualitative approach. Theresearch subjects were lecturers in the Department of Civic and Law Education,Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics, Yogyakarta State University. The datawere collected through interviews, observations, and documents. The datatrustworthiness was assessed by the triangulation technique. Abstract: Character Education through Literature Learning. One of the importantaspects in appropriate literature learning is character education. Based on theresults of several studies, some conclusions can be drawn. First, essentiallyliterature is a medium of mental and intellectual enlightenment, the mostimportant aspect in character education. Second, there are a variety of literaryworks that need appreciating as they are important in the character development.Third, literature learning relevant to the character development is one that enableslearners to develop their awareness of reading and writing as importantprerequisites for the character development. Abstract: A Development Guidance Model to Improve Academically GiftedChildren’s Social-Personal Skills. This study intended to investigate theeffectiveness of personal-social guidance programs for Academically GiftedStudents (AGS). This study was a research and development study. The researchsubjects were 80 senior high students. The data were collected using an inventoryand rating scales. The quantitative data were analyzed by the the descriptive andinferential statistical techniques, i.e. percentile, t-test and ANOVA, and thequalitative data by the descriptive technique. The results show that (1) the profileof personal-social skills among the AGS is very good, (2) the materials andimplementation of the Personal-Social Guidance Program Guide on the basis of theDevelopment Model is an appropriate alternative model that can increase theAGS’s personal-social skills, (3) the Personal-Social Guidance Program Guide onthe basis of the Developmental Model is empirically proven to be able to increasethe AGS’s personal-social skills.Keywords: development guidance model, social-personal guidance, academicallygifted students

Abstract: Challenges in the Implementation of Character Education at School.This article discusses challenges in character education at school by integrating itinto every lesson. The integrated character education in every lesson in every levelof education can be implemented in the instructional materials, processes, andlearning evaluation. During the implementation, the selection and synchronizationof materials and types of characters to be developed are required in order toprevent the discrepancy or redundancy. In integrated character education, there areinternal and external changes. The former come from the curriculum, mindset,teachers, principal, or even bureaucracy. The latter mainly come from the growthand advance of the information technology which can be directly accessed by thestudents. Due to all of those challenges, two approaches to facing them can betaken. The internal approach can be in the form of improving the understanding ofcharacter education by conducting a training/workshop, sharing ideas with others,and synchronizing the policy in education.
